Cheney Sounds Alarm on GOP 2025 Majority Threat to Democracy

Cheney Sounds Alarm on GOP 2025: In an interview on  Sunday Morning,” former Republican Representative Liz Cheney expressed concerns about a potential GOP majority in the House in 2025, seeing it as a “threat” to the country. Cheney, who served Wyoming from 2017 to 2023, emphasized her commitment to traditional Republican principles but criticized the party’s current divergence from constitutional values.

Cheney specifically pointed to House Speaker Mike Johnson, labeling him a collaborator in efforts to overturn the 2020 election. She adamantly asserted that Johnson should not be the speaker in 2025, citing the need to avoid a Republican-majority oversight of a potentially contested 2024 election, which could be decided by the House of Representatives.

The interview highlighted Cheney’s concerns about the 2024 election becoming an “existential crisis” and her belief that Johnson, once a “good friend,” was willing to disregard court rulings to fulfill Donald Trump’s wishes post-2020 election.

Cheney’s forthcoming book, “Oath and Honor,” slated for release, offers a strong rebuke of the Republican Party, its leadership, and Trump, whom she deems “the most dangerous man ever to inhabit the Oval Office.” The book criticizes Johnson for being susceptible to flattery from Trump and aspiring to be close to him.

As vice chair of the House’s January 6 committee, Cheney played a crucial role in uncovering details about Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election. She has vowed to prevent Trump’s return to the White House, even leaving open the possibility of a 2024 presidential run herself. Cheney affirmed that if Trump becomes the GOP nominee, she would leave the party, emphasizing the importance of recognizing warning signs and transcending partisan politics to address the perceived danger.
