CM Punk Reveals Rough Timeline for WWE Retirement at 50

Published:

CM Punk has shared that he does not expect to continue wrestling beyond the age of 50. Speaking in a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Punk indicated that he hopes to retire gracefully around that milestone. This marks one of the clearer statements from the wrestler about his future in the ring.

Punk Reflects on Wrestling Longevity and Retirement Thoughts

At 47 years old, Punk reflected on his earlier views about aging in wrestling, stating:

“When I was 15, if you asked me if I’d be wrestling when I was 40, I would tell you ‘No, that’s crazy. 40 is so old.’ I’m 47, and I don’t feel old yet. Terry Funk wrestled for a long time, Ric Flair wrestled for a long time. I mean, there’s luchadors that are like in their 70s that are still doing it. Do I want to be doing that? Probably not. I would estimate probably the big 50 is when I should maybe gracefully bow out. Knock on wood, if nothing else horrible happens.”

Punk’s comments highlight his awareness of the physical toll wrestling takes, even as he recognizes others in the industry who have continued later into life.

Current Wrestling Schedule and Future Plans

Despite the talk of retirement, Punk has previously downplayed the topic, emphasizing in an April interview with Metro that reduced WWE show schedules allow wrestlers to preserve their bodies more effectively over time. Punk also mentioned while in Japan last October that he intends to wrestle “until the wheels fall off.”

Looking ahead, Punk is set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Bálor during next week’s WWE Raw event in Belfast, Ireland, underscoring that he remains an active and prominent competitor in WWE.

Significance and What’s Next for CM Punk

Punk’s willingness to set a rough retirement timeline at age 50 provides fans and the wrestling community with a clearer perspective on his career trajectory. His acknowledgment of aging and the physical demands involved reflects a growing trend among performers balancing longevity with wellbeing. As Punk approaches his 50th birthday in October 2028, his future matches and potential farewell performances will likely attract heightened attention within WWE and among wrestling aficionados worldwide.
