As WWE looks toward its future leadership, Cody Rhodes has openly recognized the strong competition he faces in aiming for a top executive role. Speaking recently about the possibility of stepping into Triple H’s position, Rhodes acknowledged he is among several candidates vying to shape WWE’s direction in the years ahead, highlighting the ongoing battle for control within the company’s leadership ranks. This reflects growing speculation about who will take over WWE’s creative and operational helm as current figures eventually step down.
Cody Rhodes on Aspiring to WWE’s Highest Role
During a discussion on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike show promoting WWE’s new partnership, Cody Rhodes shared his thoughts about the possibility of holding a top leadership job like Triple H’s within the next decade. Rhodes admitted that although he would like to be considered for the role, he is fully aware of the stiff competition. He noted that he initially thought himself the leading candidate but has since realized others are also strong contenders, including CM Punk and Seth Rollins, each bringing unique strengths to the table.
“I think there’s starting to become a fight for it, and I didn’t see that at first. I thought, well, obviously I’m the best candidate,”
Rhodes laughed.
“I don’t know if I’m actually the best candidate. I felt like I had some experience, and I’d be interested in something like that, but also, it’s very clear that CM Punk is really great at helping develop young talent. He probably has a knack for it more than anybody. Seth Rollins is a little bit more rough around the edges, but would probably be an outstanding boss when it comes down to it. I’d love to throw my name in the hat. I don’t know if I’m ready to do it officially yet, but I like the fact that there’s the three of us, plus there’s tons of other people. Bayley, Roman (Reigns) will always have a say. You’ve got an older locker room right now, so eventually those positions, see if you can do good because it’s not always booking. The industry is not easy, and Triple H is doing a great job, so thankfully, we have him for quite some time.”

Wrestlepalooza: Cody Rhodes’ Upcoming Match and Return
Rhodes is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at Wrestlepalooza, marking his first match since teaming with John Cena on August 8. His absence has been explained through an in-show storyline where Rhodes was struck with a Claymore kick through the announce table, a plot device used while he filmed the new Street Fighter movie. This return event also features high-profile matches, including CM Punk teaming with AJ Lee against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, further illustrating the crossover between in-ring competition and backstage storylines involving current and aspiring WWE leaders.

Other WWE Storylines and Updates Reflecting Leadership Shifts
Beyond Rhodes’ ambitions, various developments in WWE highlight the changing landscape among top performers and potential leaders. AEW’s Mercedes Mone has provided updates on a WWE star absent for two years, and Seth Rollins recently spoke candidly about his on-screen partnership with Becky Lynch, emphasizing backstage dynamics and professional relationships. Additionally, revelations about Roman Reigns’ earnings for a movie cameo and a WWE Hall of Famer admitting to ignoring company calls reflect ongoing changes and negotiations behind the scenes.
Significance of the Leadership Battle Within WWE
The competition for WWE leadership roles, as expressed by Rhodes and seen among figures like CM Punk, Rollins, and others, marks a pivotal moment for the organization’s future. Each candidate offers distinct qualities: Rhodes brings experience and ambition, Punk excels in talent development, and Rollins possesses a no-nonsense leadership style. With WWE’s locker room evolving and an aging roster, the eventual transition of leadership will significantly influence WWE’s creative direction, roster development, and corporate strategy.
Triple H’s current stewardship remains strong, offering stability during this period of potential change. However, as the fight for succession intensifies, the decisions of these top contenders will likely shape WWE’s identity and success in the coming decade. Fans and insiders alike will follow these developments closely, as the wrestlers moving from in-ring competition to leadership roles will impact the company’s trajectory significantly.
