Drew McIntyre, the current Undisputed WWE Champion, expressed enthusiasm recently over WWE 2K26’s updated features, particularly the new Inferno Match. During an interview at WWE 2K26 Creator Fest, McIntyre shared excitement about his character’s improved look and the variety of match options this year’s game offers.
The Scottish Warrior welcomed the changes, noting a more muscular and tanned version of his in-game character compared to last year’s edition. He also showed particular eagerness for the Dumpster Match, anticipating the chance to throw CM Punk, also known as The Second City Saint, into the trash. When informed about the inclusion of Inferno matches, McIntyre responded with surprise and amusement, highlighting how players could set opponents on fire during gameplay.
“Can’t wait to play, maybe Dumpster Match. Maybe throw Punk into the trash where he belongs. Inferno Match is there!? You just set the dude on fire. That’s awesome,” Drew McIntyre said.
WrestleMania 42 Title Scenario Faces Uncertainty
At the 2026 Elimination Chamber event, Randy Orton secured his position as the number one contender for Drew McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42. Orton and Cody Rhodes were the last two competitors in the men’s Elimination Chamber match before McIntyre unexpectedly interfered, costing Rhodes, known as The American Nightmare, a possible victory.
Although McIntyre was initially scheduled to face Orton at WrestleMania, the storyline took a turn when Nick Aldis arranged for McIntyre to defend the championship against Rhodes on the upcoming episode of SmackDown in Chicago. This development has complicated the title picture and cast doubt on McIntyre’s WrestleMania opponent.
The outcome leaves open whether Orton will face McIntyre, Rhodes, or if WWE might surprise fans by organizing a multi-competitor main event. The situation continues to evolve as the company strategizes its WrestleMania lineup.
Significance of New Match Types and Championship Uncertainty
Drew McIntyre’s involvement in WWE 2K26’s new match formats, like the Inferno Match, shows a push to enhance the gaming experience for fans and players, potentially increasing interest in both the game and WWE events. Meanwhile, the uncertainty surrounding the WrestleMania 42 main event keeps fans engaged, as top contenders like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and McIntyre himself remain central to the championship storyline.
These developments highlight WWE’s efforts to blend interactive entertainment with live events, while maintaining suspense over one of its biggest annual shows. How these storylines resolve will shape audience anticipation and drive interest in upcoming WWE programming.
