IYO SKY Eyes Dream WWE Team-Up with Rey Mysterio

IYO SKY, currently holding the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Rhea Ripley, has expressed a unique desire to team up with Rey Mysterio. The Japanese wrestler recently revealed this wish during an interview, highlighting her interest in exploring more intergender and mixed tag team matches, which she has rarely participated in so far.

In a conversation with interviewer Denise Salcedo, SKY mentioned that although she enjoys a variety of match types, she hasn’t had many opportunities to compete in intergender or mixed tag matches. She identified three-time World Champion Rey Mysterio as her preferred partner for these encounters.

“So I have so many dream opponents, and it could be do it in 2K. I’m so excited about it. Also, I would love to have intergender match or mixed tag match because I didn’t have (them) many times in (my) WWE career. I would love to tag team with Rey Mysterio.” [From 4:59 – 5:23]

During the interview, SKY clarified that her interest in teaming with Mysterio extends beyond the WWE 2K video game series, where players simulate wrestling matches. When asked if she meant teaming up with Rey in the game, real life, or both, she answered that she hopes to do it in both arenas, showing her enthusiasm for such a partnership on and off screen.

Constant Preparation and Dedication Drive IYO SKY

Alongside her hopes for future teaming opportunities, IYO SKY also discussed her intense work ethic and readiness to perform whenever WWE calls on her. Outside of matches, she dedicates herself to regular training sessions that include gym workouts, as well as practicing martial arts like jujutsu and kickboxing.

Though the martial arts techniques are not directly applied during her wrestling performances, SKY explained their importance for her physical conditioning and overall fitness. She credited this continuous training regimen as a key factor in her success and achieving championship status within WWE.

“I [am] always ready to wrestle. If I have day off, I go to gym. I do kickboxing, jujutsu, and not only do flipping move[s]. I [am] always practicing so many things like martial arts. I don’t use [them] in ring, but it’s good for my conditioning, so that [has] so much helped me. That’s why I [became] the champion.” [H/T: Fightful]

Upcoming Challenges and Future Opportunities

Looking ahead, IYO SKY is set to participate in the 2026 Royal Rumble, aiming to secure a world title shot and earn a coveted spot at WrestleMania 42. Given her current momentum as one half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions and her dedication to expanding her in-ring experiences, her future in WWE appears promising.

The possibility of a team-up with Rey Mysterio, a revered figure in wrestling, could open new avenues for both performers, offering fans fresh and exciting mixed tag team action. This potential alliance highlights SKY’s willingness to explore diverse match types while continuing her championship pursuits.
