Rhea Ripley Reveals Story Behind Nia Jax Viral Wrestling Moment and Her Signature “Sexy Pin” Move

Published:

WWE Superstar Rhea Ripley has offered new insight into the Nia Jax viral wrestling moment and explained the origins of her renowned “sexy pin” move during a recent interview. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Ripley discussed how these ring moments have shaped her reputation as one of WWE’s most talked-about stars.

The Story Behind Ripley’s Popular “Sexy Pin”

Rhea Ripley detailed that the move now known as her signature “sexy pin” first emerged while she was wrestling in Australia early in her career. She recalled its beginnings during an intergender match, where she finished Zack Sabbath with the now-famous maneuver. Ripley’s trainers, Matt and Chris Basso, coined the name, and it gradually became an integral part of her in-ring persona.

“That actually started in Australia. I’ve been doing it for a long time. I pinned Zack Sabbath that way in an intergender match I had. My trainers, Matt and Chris Basso, used to call it the ‘sexy pin,’ and we’d laugh about it every time. I think that just stuck with me. It’s second nature now—it just works. Very Rhea.”

Nia Jax and the Rikishi-Inspired Viral Moment

Ripley also recalled the incident that became the Nia Jax viral wrestling moment, where she executed a Rikishi-inspired stinkface maneuver. Contrary to fan assumptions, this spot was not Ripley’s idea, but instead suggested by Nia Jax herself. Ripley emphasized that the plan was to add a unique spin influenced by wrestling legend Rikishi, though she adapted the concept to her own style.

“I knew it was gonna be big, but that sh*t exploded. It wasn’t even my idea. It was Nia’s idea. She’s like, ‘Yeah, and then you stinkface me.’ I was like, ‘OK, if you want.’ Before that, I was thinking I should do the Rikishi move—you know, the pull up and the little dance. I didn’t think I’d get it spot on, so I did my own spin. It still pops up on my Twitter—it’s wild. I got so much publicity off that… but also a lot of negativity. I was like, guys, you need to calm down.”
