Rey Mysterio Opens Up on Dominik’s Tattoo & Aliyah’s Wrestling Future

Rey Mysterio recently spoke about his daughter Aliyah’s journey into professional wrestling during an episode of Cody Rhodes’ podcast, What Do You Wanna’ Talk About? He described Aliyah’s first experience in the ring, highlighting her unexpected natural ability and enthusiasm for the sport. Rey remarked that Aliyah stepped into the ring with him for the first time on a Wednesday and showed a surprising connection to the fundamentals like positioning and rope work. He said,

“She went in there on a Wednesday with me and I was like, ‘There’s no way, this is her first time stepping in the ring?’ She had a connection with positioning, hitting the ropes. It was scary crazy. She just went in there with me to feel what it was like, to feel the mat, to feel the ropes. I’m afraid that she might be [a natural] if she decides to take that path. Later on that day, we went to TJ and Nattie’s school and she did a little bit there too. When we finished and the day was over, she was like, ‘I really enjoyed it, this is pretty fun.’ I was like, ‘Okay, okay, okay.’ The next step would be, let’s see if you can go through a full week of training. If you can do that and you like it afterwards, maybe it’s something you might want to think about. I’m actually trying to get her out there pretty soon so she can just feel what it’s like to train everyday. I’ve thought about that and it scares me, but it also excites me.”

Rey’s cautious optimism reveals both his protective instincts as a father and his recognition of Aliyah’s potential to continue his family’s wrestling legacy.

Dominik Mysterio’s Meaningful Neck Tattoo

Rey also discussed his son Dominik’s recent neck tattoo, connecting it to their family history and wrestling heritage. He explained that Dominik’s tattoo was inspired by a conversation about Rey getting a neck tattoo himself, which led Dominik to act first so he could jest that his father copied him. The tattoo serves as a tribute to Rey’s uncle, whose influence ignited Rey’s passion for wrestling. Rey shared,

“I think he overheard me saying that I was going to get a neck tattoo and he jumped right to it so that way he can say my dad copied me. My deadbeat dad. I love the fact that he’s paying homage to my uncle, the person that — I fell in love with the sport because of him. I grew up watching him, my life has always been wrestling because of my uncle and that was the very first mask that he designed and wore. It’s special and it has meaning to it, which is what a tattoo should have, right?”

This connection emphasizes the deep roots the Mysterio family has in professional wrestling, symbolized through personal and meaningful body art.

Rey Reflects on a Challenging Mask Experience at WrestleMania 21

Rey Mysterio also opened up about his toughest incident involving a wrestling mask during WrestleMania 21, which marked the first WrestleMania Goes Hollywood event. Teaming with Eddie Guerrero, Rey’s outfit included a custom latex mask adorned with tattoo designs from his body. However, the mask’s latex material caused persistent issues throughout the match because it kept coming undone at the bottom. Despite the struggle, Rey managed to keep focusing on the match while simultaneously adjusting his mask. He recalled,

“WrestleMania 21, which was the first WrestleMania Goes Hollywood. Eddie and I opened up that show. The mask was cool, the outfit was cool. We did a version of my tattoos at the time, it was a chest piece and had Mexican across the stomach and on the back he did the design of my spine tattoo. The mask was made of like a latex material, this is the first time he had did something like that. It kept unbuttoning from the bottom and you see throughout the whole match, I’m fixing it and strapping it back on. It was a pain. I think about that happening to me now, at my age, I’d freak out. I don’t know how I handled it, but back then, even with Eddie, you feel pressure but at the same time you know you have to put on your wrestling boots. I was trying to lace up my boots and the mask at the same time while not letting Eddie down. For some reason, god is always on our side and he made it work perfectly well that night. That one was one of the masks that I love, I just struggled throughout that whole match trying to keep it on.”

This story highlights the physical challenges and pressures wrestlers face, illustrating Rey’s resilience and dedication to delivering a memorable performance despite unexpected difficulties.

Implications for the Mysterio Wrestling Legacy

Rey Mysterio’s reflections reveal a family deeply entwined with the wrestling world, balancing tradition, personal growth, and the pressures of the sport. Aliyah’s promising start in training signals the possibility of continuing the Mysterio wrestling family legacy into the next generation, while Dominik’s tattoo expresses a connection to their shared heritage. Rey’s candid recount of his mask struggle also provides fans with a glimpse into the physical demands wrestlers endure to maintain their craft.

With Aliyah potentially stepping into full-time training soon and Dominik’s presence increasingly visible both inside and outside the ring, the Mysterio family remains a focal point in professional wrestling narratives. As they continue to honor their past while shaping their futures, followers of Rey Mysterio and his family can expect to see further developments that enrich WWE’s broader storyline landscape.
