Stephanie Vaquer Opens Up on Learning English and WWE Dreams

Published:

Stephanie Vaquer, originally from Chile and having built her wrestling career in Mexico, is dedicating herself daily to improving her English-speaking abilities. With the focus on Stephanie Vaquer English learning, she is preparing to compete at Wrestlepalooza this weekend, where she will face IYO SKY for the vacant Women’s World Championship, aiming to secure her first title on WWE’s main roster.

The Challenges of Learning English While Competing in WWE

Vaquer revealed in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight that she has been in the United States for ten months and has been actively working to enhance her English skills, though she admits it is still a work in progress. She attends weekly classes but also dedicates time every day to practice. She finds speaking English complicated because her thoughts naturally occur in Spanish and she must mentally translate them, which slows her down during promos and interviews.

Now I’m here 10 months. I know my English is not perfect, yet I try,

Vaquer said.

But I think for 10 months, it’s good. And I really try to learn every day.

But for me, I learn every day because I try to practice every day. It’s hard because for me, I need to think in Spanish. I think in Spanish. Translate, yeah. And I don’t want people to think — I don’t want people to say, ‘Why she speaks so slow?’ Because I try to translate everything. And sometimes, no same. In Spanish, maybe makes sense. But in English, they’re like, what? So, it’s hard. It’s difficult. But I hope one day. I need, I just need more time and learn more.

Career Highlights and Upcoming WWE Opportunities

Before joining WWE’s main roster, Vaquer captured both the NXT Women’s Championship and the NXT Women’s North American Championship, demonstrating her rising star status within the company. Initially, she was set to challenge Naomi for the Women’s World Championship at WWE Clash in Paris last month. However, Naomi’s pregnancy led to her vacating the title, postponing that anticipated matchup. Vaquer expressed that although she was disappointed by the change, it ultimately benefits everyone involved and she is eager to compete in WWE’s first PLE event under ESPN this Saturday.

Looking Ahead to Future Rivalries and Matches

When asked about her dream opponents, Stephanie Vaquer named Asuka and Rhea Ripley, two top WWE stars she has yet to face in a one-on-one match. These potential matches signify her ambition to continue growing and establishing herself among WWE’s elite women performers.
