The Miz Hails Jacob Fatu’s WWE Star Potential

Published:

The Miz recently expressed strong admiration for Jacob Fatu, a former WWE United States Champion, emphasizing his considerable potential in the wrestling world. Speaking about Fatu’s abilities, The Miz praised the unique qualities that make him a standout performer who could excel in WWE and beyond.

During an appearance on No-Contest Wrestling, The Miz was asked to name four wrestlers he would trust to support him in a hostile environment. Without hesitation, he selected The Usos, crediting their loyalty and recalling an occasion where they intervened to protect him during an altercation. He then expanded his choice to all Samoan wrestlers, including the late Umaga and Jacob Fatu, describing them collectively as a reliable and powerful group.

Addressing Jacob Fatu specifically, The Miz shared:

“Jacob, the world is his oyster. I think he has all the talent to become whatever he wants to be in this business. I watch and I see the little intricacies, the little things, the connection with the audience that they all have.”

He drew a parallel between Fatu’s in-ring presence and that of Jey Uso, remarking on the electrifying reaction from crowds when both compete. The Miz elaborated,

“You watch Jey come out there, the entire arena is erupting, they feel that energy that they have. And I think Jacob has that same energy – when he’s in the ring, I wanna see what he’s going to do next.”

Insights into The Miz’s Previously Planned WWE Championship Run

In a revealing discussion on the podcast Bussin With The Boys, The Miz disclosed that he was initially slated to win the WWE Championship after CM Punk vacated the title in 2011. Punk’s unexpected departure led WWE to create a storyline involving a “paper champion” and even storing the belt in a refrigerator, which became a viral moment.

The Miz explained the original plan involved a tournament where he would first defeat Rey Mysterio and then John Cena to claim the championship. However, the idea was ultimately scrapped, reportedly because the matchups would have been babyface versus babyface, whereas creative preferred a rivalry featuring a clear hero and villain dynamic.

“CM Punk left the show and he took the title with him,” The Miz said. “They made up a ‘paper champion’ or whatever. They brought a championship and said, ‘He’s leaving the show. He’s gone.’ They put the title in a refrigerator; that was the big meme. They were going to have a tournament. I went up against Rey Mysterio. I was going to beat Rey Mysterio and then beat John Cena, so I would be the champion.”

He added,

“They switched it because usually we like babyface vs. heel. Bad guy vs. good guy. In this instance, it would have been babyface vs. babyface. ‘You need bad guy vs. good guy.’ I was the bad guy, but then, it was two huge monumental babyfaces that are Rey Mysterio and John Cena. Let them go at it. There was a moment there where I would have been a (two-time) champion.”

The Broader Impact of The Miz’s Comments on Jacob Fatu

The Miz’s endorsement not only highlights Jacob Fatu’s growing stature within the wrestling community but also signals WWE’s potential interest in elevating him further, particularly given his dynamic ring presence and ability to engage fans. His comparison to Jey Uso, a mainstream WWE star, underlines the promising trajectory Fatu may follow.

This recognition from a seasoned WWE veteran like The Miz could boost Fatu’s visibility and opportunity within major promotions. Meanwhile, The Miz’s shared reflections on scrapped championship ambitions reveal the complex nature of wrestling storylines and the shifts that can alter a superstar’s path. Fans can now keenly watch for Fatu’s continued evolution as he strives to translate this potential into WWE success.
