Will Ospreay’s AEW Injury Sparks Doubts on Return Timeline Despite Vows to Be Back Soon

Published:

AEW wrestler Will Ospreay recently revealed a significant setback regarding his health, sharing details of an injury that could delay his in-ring return. After suffering two herniated discs during the All In 2025 event, Ospreay remains hopeful about resuming competition soon, though doubts persist about the feasibility of his timeline.

In the months leading up to All In, Will Ospreay had been integral in elevating AEW’s product, teaming with Swerve Strickland to score a notable victory over The Young Bucks at the promotion’s premier pay-per-view. At the All In main event, Ospreay attempted to support Hangman Page by confronting the Death Riders but was overwhelmed and ultimately taken out on a stretcher. This Wednesday, Ospreay disclosed that his injury involves two herniated discs, confirming he will be sidelined for the immediate future. Despite this, he expressed intentions to return at the upcoming Forbidden Door event.

However, Wrestling Observer Radio journalist Dave Meltzer expressed skepticism over Ospreay’s expected quick comeback. Meltzer highlighted that a recovery from herniated discs usually requires extensive time off, potentially up to a year, making Ospreay’s plan to return within a month appear unrealistic.

“It’s shocking that he said he’d be back in a month with two herniated discs… It sure sounded like something that should be a year off. When he said that—and I knew it was a shoot—I thought, ‘This is not good at all,'” he said. —Dave Meltzer, Wrestling Observer Radio

Support from Swerve Strickland and the Future of Their Partnership

Throughout recent months, Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay formed a strong tag team that gained considerable attention. Ospreay’s injury now casts uncertainty over how long their alliance might last. Following the injury report, Swerve publicly showed solidarity with Ospreay and later took to social media to christen their team.

On X/Twitter, Swerve succinctly named their duo “Twin Blades.”

The status of this tag team and Ospreay’s return at Forbidden Door will be closely watched by fans, as his recovery progress remains uncertain and the timeline tight.
