WrestleMania 42 Main Events Shaken Up Ahead of Showdown

With WrestleMania 42 just over two months away, WWE’s lineup is experiencing significant changes as the event approaches. The only confirmed match so far features CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Title against Roman Reigns, the winner of the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble. These updates come amid concerns over lower-than-expected ticket sales for WWE’s biggest annual show.

Confirmed Main Event and Possible Changes on Night One

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, all matches on the WrestleMania card except Punk vs. Reigns remain open to revision. The anticipated headline for Night Two is the World Heavyweight Title bout, while Night One’s main event is reportedly set to feature Drew McIntyre facing Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, the path to that matchup is not firm, with WWE considering adjustments to the storyline.

Complications in Title Contention and Storyline Development

WWE continues to build on Sami Zayn’s ongoing narrative of never managing to defeat McIntyre, with Jacob Fatu also now woven into the championship picture. Meltzer noted that although a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania has not been ruled out, it is currently expected that only two contenders will remain in the title chase as the event nears.

Efforts to Keep Championship Feud Unpredictable

The creative team is actively trying to avoid predictability in the buildup to the Undisputed WWE Championship clash, given that McIntyre and Rhodes have already squared off multiple times earlier this year. Their recent encounters include one-on-one matches at WrestlePalooza and Saturday Night’s Main Event, as well as a grueling Three Stages of Hell Match on SmackDown last month.
