As WrestleMania 42 nears and headline matches begin to solidify, WWE appears ready to initiate a long-anticipated storyline involving Dominik Mysterio and Finn Bálor within The Judgment Day faction. The potential feud revolves around internal conflict that could reshape the group’s dynamic.
Veteran wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE initially intended to have a match between Mysterio and Bálor months ago but postponed it due to the faction’s strong collective momentum. Meltzer shared on Wrestling Observer Radio,
“I think that they’re finally going to get to Balor and Dom. Balor and Dom were scheduled for SummerSlam. That’s where the match was scheduled to happen, and I think they just dragged it out because Judgment Day was doing so well they didn’t want to rush it.”
Intercontinental Championship May Gain Spotlight Through This Feud
This rivalry could also bring renewed importance to the Intercontinental Championship, currently held by Dominik Mysterio, which has seen limited defenses since Survivor Series. Mysterio’s infrequent title defenses are partly due to injury setbacks, leaving the championship less prominent in recent WWE programming.
Judgment Day’s presence was notable during last year’s two-night SummerSlam. On the first night, faction members Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships to Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, while on the second night, Mysterio retained the Intercontinental title by defeating AJ Styles.
Finn Bálor’s Recent Attempts at World Title and Signs of Change
Finn Bálor has also pursued higher stakes recently, challenging CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Elimination Chamber event but failing to capture the title. Unusually, neither Mysterio nor fellow faction member JD McDonagh intervened during this match. After his defeat, Bálor shook hands with Punk, signaling a potential shift in his character or trajectory within WWE.
Possible Faction Instability as Feud Approaches
If WWE proceeds with the Bálor versus Mysterio storyline, this internal conflict could signal emerging fractures within The Judgment Day — one of the company’s most dominant groups in recent years. Such a development may alter the faction’s future and reshape WWE’s ongoing narratives as WrestleMania draws closer.
