Ex-WWE Star Reveals Iyo Sky’s Severe Myopia Condition

Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Dakota Kai disclosed that Iyo Sky deals with a serious eye disorder known as myopia. The revelation came during the Zelvx and Charlie Girl podcast, hosted by Zelina Vega and Dakota Kai. Iyo Sky, currently half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Rhea Ripley in the team RHIYO, has a significantly severe case compared to average nearsightedness sufferers.

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common condition where distant objects appear blurry. While Dakota Kai mentioned her own vision challenge is mild with a correction level of minus one, Sky’s condition is much more extreme with a reported minus 12 vision, meaning she struggles profoundly to see clearly without corrective lenses.

Intense Vision Challenges During Matches

Kai shared a striking example of the difficulties Sky faces while performing, revealing that on one occasion a contact lens flew out during a match, causing Sky significant distress due to her poor eyesight without it. This condition makes it almost as if she is “kind of blind” when she loses her contacts, underscoring the challenges she manages while competing at a high level.

“So basically how it works is you get a number, right? Mine’s like -1, which is not large in the scheme of things. IYO told me one time that hers is -12, and I was looking at her like, ‘I think that’s blind,’” she said.

“One time, she did tell me one of them flew out during a match, and she was freaking the f*ck out. Because I think she literally is kind of blind without the contact,”

she added.

Despite the severity of her myopia, Iyo Sky continues to deliver exceptional performances inside the ring, demonstrating resilience and dedication to her craft. Her ability to perform under such visual limitations highlights both her skill and her determination to excel.

Upcoming Title Defense on WWE SmackDown

The RHIYO team consisting of Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley is scheduled to defend their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against The Irresistible Forces, Nia Jax and Lash Legend, on the upcoming Friday Night SmackDown. This match represents another opportunity for Sky to prove her capability amid the challenges posed by her eye condition.

Significance of Revealing Sky’s Condition

Sharing the details of Sky’s myopia brings awareness to the unseen physical obstacles professional wrestlers face and exemplifies perseverance in a demanding sport. This disclosure also allows fans and observers to appreciate the hidden difficulties behind Sky’s impressive in-ring performances. Going forward, her story may encourage greater understanding and support for athletes managing similar medical conditions while maintaining their competitive edge.
