CM Punk Reacts to WWE Hall of Famer’s Shirt Criticism

Published:

CM Punk, currently the World Heavyweight Champion, recently addressed criticism from WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash regarding his choice to wrestle in a t-shirt. Nash made these remarks following the December 22nd episode of Raw, where Punk appeared in the ring wearing a t-shirt, an uncommon choice for him during matches.

Shortly afterward, at a WWE house show, Punk removed his shirt before a match with Bronson Reed, only to reveal another t-shirt beneath. When asked if this was a direct response to Nash’s criticism, Punk clarified that his intention was simply to lighten the mood and make his fellow wrestlers laugh during the road trip.

In an interview with Comingsoon.net, Punk expanded on the situation, expressing confusion about the origin of the criticism and explaining his lighthearted motivation behind the choice.

You know what, I can say it had nothing to do with him but obviously the genesis of the story is him saying that I wrestle in a shirt and I never wrestle in a shirt. I didn’t really understand what the criticism was, but thanks. You’re right. I did that to make people I was in the ring with laugh because when I’m on a house show, to me, that’s what it’s about. It’s about having fun.If the fans see us having fun, they’re having fun. I like to keep it light, I like to make people laugh when I’m on the road and I’m away from my wife and people are away from their families. That’s our family while we’re on the road and I’m kind of the jokey guy. I’m gonna have fun on a house show.

Punk emphasized that wearing the shirt was less about making a statement and more about fostering camaraderie among performers during the often-grueling travel schedule. He expressed that keeping the atmosphere fun and lighthearted benefits both wrestlers and fans alike, maintaining a strong bond while away from their loved ones.

In a dramatic twist during a recent Raw episode, Finn Balor of The Judgment Day interrupted Punk’s promo to demand a title shot. While Punk challenged Balor to defend his title that same night in Düsseldorf, Germany, Balor declined, instead scheduling the match for January 19th. This upcoming bout will take place in Balor’s hometown of Belfast, Ireland, much to the crowd’s surprise and anticipation.

The match is now official and is set to headline Raw next week, promising an intense contest between two of WWE’s leading competitors.
